Timothy Generation

2 Timothy 1-4

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

2 Timothy 1

Timothy Charged to Guard His Trust
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus [a]by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, my beloved [b]son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience [c]the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my [d]prayers night and day, 4 longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 [e]For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of [f]timidity, but of power and love and [g]discipline.
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me insuffering for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holycalling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him [h]until that day. 13 [i]Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit whodwells in us, the [j]treasure which has been entrusted to you.
15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in [k]Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my [l]chains; 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me— 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that day—and you know very well what services he rendered at Ephesus.

2 Timothy 2

Be Strong
1 You therefore, my [m]son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he [n]does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, 9 [o]for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned. 10For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. 11 It is a trustworthy statement:
   For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him;
If we [p]deny Him, He also will deny us;
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

An Unashamed Workman
14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for [q]it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their[r]talk will spread like [s]gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.” 20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself fromthese things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those whocall on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that theyproduce [t]quarrels. 24 The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive [u]by him to do his will.

2 Timothy 3

“Difficult Times Will Come”
1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, [v]haters of good, 4 treacherous,reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of [w]godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. 6 For among them are those who[x]enter into households and captivate [y]weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, 7 always learning and never able to come to the [z]knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith. 9 But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, justas [aa]Jannes’s and Jambres’s folly was also. 10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, [ab]perseverance, 11persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; whatpersecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! 12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them15 and that from childhood you have knownthe sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is [ac]inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for [ad]training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 4

“Preach the Word”
1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with [ae]great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of anevangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me onthat day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
Personal Concerns
9 Make every effort to come to me soon; 10 for Demas, having loved this present [af]world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to [ag]Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 OnlyLuke is with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service. 12 ButTychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 When you come bring the cloak which I left at Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. 15 Be on guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our [ah]teaching. 16 At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. 17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might[ai]be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will [aj]bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to [ak]Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained at Corinth, butTrophimus I left sick at Miletus. 21 Make every effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, also Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brethren.
22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

Who is Timothy?

Acts 16:1,3

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Acts 16

The Macedonian Vision
1 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. And a disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of aJewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek,

3 Paul wanted this man to [a]go with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

- disciple of apostle Paul

5 [e]For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

- of strong faith

Acts 16:2

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
2 and he was well spoken of by the brethren who were in Lystra and Iconium.

- has a good testimony

2nd Timothy 1:2
2 To Timothy, my beloved [b]son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

- beloved of Paul

1 Corinthians 4:16-17

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
16 Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. 17 For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is mybeloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

- clone of Paul in life and ministry

For better understanding read Acts to Timothy.

Circumstances during this time..

1st generation is straying away from the truth and becoming ungodly. Evil generation is at hand (2 Timothy 3)

The Primary task given to Timothy
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with [ae]great patience and instruction.

Tasked to preach the world and make a positive impact for God in an evil world.

3 things when preaching:
1. Correct - to convince through argument of ones error - use the Bible
2. Rebuke - to reprimand; to tell some with authority that someone is wrong
3. Encourage - make people better

So...

Be prepared!! - active - readiness in preaching the Word.
In season or out of season whether it is convenient or not we should be ready seeking opportunity.

Patience (required) experience hardships, ignored, ridiculed.
Suitable to the needs of the people (careful instructions) adjusting our teaching.

In connection to Joshua generation: Know the Word before you preach the Word.

Joshua 1:8

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may [a]be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will [b]have success.

Meditate on the Word

How we carry out a task depends on our attitude - determines the actions we carry out and the subsequent result.
(Task > attitude > actions)

3 attitudes to fulfill the task at hand
1. Passion - 2 Timothy 1:6-7 fan the flame, gift of Holy Spirit
be intensely emotional with God!
Consistently - sustain
a. Word
b. Works
c. Witness
these are the things we are to be passionate about.

Coal becomes cold because of sin, fear(timid), worldliness.

2 Timothy 1:7 Spirit of Power and not timidity flamed by spirit of love! To effectively preach the Word; and discipline to be consistent - ask the Lord for this Spirit is going cold.

2. Perseverance - enduring hardships (2 Timothy 2:3)
12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
In fact, everyone who wants to live a Godly life in Christ.
Hardship is to be expected (2 Timothy 2:4-8)

Examples:
Soldier - pleasure of commandant
Athlete - prize
Farmer - harvest (produce)

The reward of Paul in enduring hardship - the salvation of the elect (2Timothy 2:10).... have the same attitude!

3. Perfection - pursue excellence (2 Timothy 2:15)

3 areas to pursue excellence:
A. Proper handling of the Word (2 Timothy 2:15)

  • Do personal studies (Joshua 1:8)
  • Be guided by the Holy Spirit (John 16:13)
  • Be trained by the church elders and teachers (Acts 2:42)

B. Pertinent speech (Timothy 2:16; 23-25)
  • Avoid Godless chatter
  • Avoid foolish and stupid arguments
  • Be stilled in teaching and communicating properly
  • Be gentle when instructing

c. Personal purity
  • Free youthful desired pursue righteousness (2 Timothy 2:20-22)
  • We do it with the same mind
  • Be accountable with each other
The Timothy generation is tasked to preach the Word of God. The attitudes that the generation needs to possess are the ff(The ones mentioned above)

STOP being normal

A youth service preaching by Pastor Larry San Pedro.

You being saved is your gift to God!

2 Corinthians 5:17

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, [a]he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Kainos! Wala ng bakas ng dati!

Worship and be a witness: calling

TRUTH:

1. You can not be a follower of Jesus and stay NORMAL.
The problem of normal people:

  • attracted to lesser things (pansamantala)
  • addicted to lesser things
  • attached to the lesser things
  • adapted to the lesser things

Galatians 5:17

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
17 For the flesh [a]sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you [b]please.

I am saved and I am a child of God, I am complete.
I have everything I need to live for the Lord and to live a fully satisfied and abundant life...
The old, boring, gutless purposeless, normal you is gone.
You are now a new person, fueled by the power of Christ in you.
You are not the same person you used to be.
You are now a radical and willing to do whatever it takes to live for Jesus and follow him, to love God and love people.
You can't follow Jesus and still try to live a normal life.
Changes should be noticed.

They were normal: naging kainos.
Simon to Cephas (Peter)
Levi to Matthew
Saul to Paul

2. You can't love with the same normal love you loved people before you found Jesus.

3. You cannot give the same way you used to give.

4. You cannot serve the same way you used to.

Useless to usefull
Worthless to valuables
Ordinary to extraordinary

People who fillow Christ are not normal!

1 Peter 2:9

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
 9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Bible calls them: peculiar people

Ephesians 3:20

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

Normal people are average people who do average work and produce average results. No one is inspired by average people.

TO PURSUE YOUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH YOU MUST LEVEL UP!

Level up in your perspective - being a follower of Jesus gives you significance!

1 Corinthians 15:10

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

TO PURSUE GROWTH YOU MUST:

Level up in your preoccupation - God has called you to do what is significant

Ecclesiastes 1:2-3

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

2 “[a]Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher,
[b]Vanity of vanities! All is [c]vanity.”
3 What advantage does man have in all his work
Which he does under the sun?

TO PURSUE YOUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH YOU MUST LEVEL UP!

Level up in your purpose - God has called you to give glory to Him!
God has called you to worship Him, and be a witness to Him.

Philippians 3:10

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and [a]the fellowship of His sufferings, beingconformed to His death;

Normal people don't inspire others!
Normal people don't make incredible leaders
Normal people don't change world

Normal people don't take risks
Normal people don't face fears
Normal people die with a lot of regrets

If you want to level up there are....

Choices to make
Changes to make
Calls to take
Challenges to face
Battles to win
Burdens to carry

So! It's about time the doers of the almighty level up and stop being normal for God!

Winners in a generation of losers

Protecting and preserving our children means helping them understand how to win and remain winners.

Introducing the Judges
They were the post-Joshua leaders, temporary shepherds but they were really rescue specialists because the generations after Joshua were losers in life. The judges were the winners among losers.

The passage for this preaching comes from Judges 4:1-23

Judges 4:1-23

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Judges 4

Deborah and Barak Deliver from Canaanites
1 Then the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, after Ehud died. 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; and the commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim. 3 The sons of Israel cried to the LORD; for he had nine hundred iron chariots, and he oppressed the sons of Israel severely for twenty years. 4 Now Deborah, a [a]prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. 5 She used to[b]sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the sons of Israel came up to her for judgment. 6 Now she sent and summoned Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali, and said to him, “[c]Behold, the LORD, the God of Israel, has commanded, ‘Go and march to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the sons of Naphtali and from the sons of Zebulun. 7 I will draw out to you Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his [d]many troops to the river Kishon, and I will give him into your hand.’” 8Then Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” 9 She said, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the honor shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to take, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hands of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh, and ten thousand men went up [e]with him; Deborah also went up with him.
11 Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the [f]oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.
12 Then they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor. 13 Sisera called together all his chariots, nine hundred iron chariots, and all the people who were with him, fromHarosheth-hagoyim to the river Kishon. 14 Deborah said to Barak, “Arise! For this is the day in which the LORD has given Sisera into your hands; [g]behold, the LORD has gone out before you.” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him. 15 The LORD [h]routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera alighted from hischariot and fled away on foot. 16 But Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not even one was left.
17 Now Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. 18 Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, “Turn aside, my master, turn aside to me! Do not be afraid.” And he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a [i]rug. 19 He said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened a [j]bottle of milk and gave him a drink; then she covered him.20 He said to her, “Stand in the doorway of the tent, and it shall be if anyone comes and inquires of you, and says, ‘Is there anyone here?’ that you shall say, ‘No.’” 21 But Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and [k]seized a hammer in her hand, and went secretly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went through into the ground; for he was sound asleep and exhausted. So he died. 22 And behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking.” And he entered [l]with her, and behold Sisera was lying dead with the tent peg in his temple.
23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the sons of Israel.

Now a recap on the summary of the story of the generations.
First Generation: The Exodus Generation
Second Generation: The crossing of the Joshua Generation AKA as the generation of conquerors.
Third Generation: The suffering and plundered generation - the generation mentioned in Judges 2:10

The 3rd generation - had the privilege of inheriting the land.
                            - but were raided constantly by other people

In a generation of losers, on comes out as an exemption. He is the "Judge", the winner in a generation of losers.

Now the question is: "How can we help the losers?"

First Lesson: Help them understand the victory to defeat formula, then urge them to protect their victory.
  • Choose wicked as your way of life
  • As a consequence, the burden-giver comes(Sisera)
  • Wickedness exposes our weaknesses and magnifies the power of the enemy. ea (hearing the Word of God but not following the will of the Lord)
Second Lesson: Help them understand defeat to victory formula, then urge them to take the path of victory.

  • I'll confess that I can't make it without God, so I will call upon Him. (in this way God sends a deliverer)
  • I'll submit to spiritual leaders because God usually works through them.
  • I'll do what is necessary even if it may sound difficult.
Parents duty is God Given! We must comply!
Parental authority has its limits (age and concept of what is excitement)
Parental authority, when consistently refused ushers in the teachers called painful experience.

My prayer is for the parents that they may guide their children in the way that they have a connection with the church they are in and have the passion to serve the Lord in any ministry. I also pray for my future, and also to my future wife that in time that we decide to have our own children we will be able to guide them and nurture them with the teachings of Christ, that even though they will live in a time where the generation will be filled with criminals and corrupt people they will be different and be the salt and the light of the world. Thank You Father for this reminder. Amen.

Be Blessed!

A failure of no small measure: legacy-less life

As the saying says: "Kung anong puno, siya ring bunga"

What a person leaves behind is called:
4 Kinds:

  1. Legacy - "sasadyain" to be left behind. Coming from the word [Legate].
  2. Heritage - sum total of your life you have left behind.
  3. Bequest - whoever will benefit has been identified.
  4. Patrimony -  An endowment or estate belonging to an institution, especially a church.
Every believer is expected to leave behind a spiritual legacy without which the one who passed away is viewed as a failure and the one left behind will more likely be a failure also. [until God intervenes]

A generation that did not leave a legacy will lead means the failure of the succeeding generation which is attributed to this legacy-less generation.

The passage comes from:

Judges 2:1-23

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Judges 2

Israel Rebuked
1 Now the angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you, 2 and as for you, you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not [a]obeyed Me; what is this you have done? 3 Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they will [b]become as thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.’” 4 When the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 So they named that place [c]Bochim; and there they sacrificed to the LORD.
Joshua Dies
6 When Joshua had dismissed the people, the sons of Israel went each to his inheritance to possess the land. 7 The people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who[d]survived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD which He had done for Israel. 8 Then Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten. 9 And they buried him in the territory of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. 10 All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.
Israel Serves Baals
11 Then the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD and [e]served the Baals, 12 and they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the LORD to anger. 13 So they forsook the LORD andserved Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of plunderers who plundered them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had spoken and as the LORD had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed.
16 Then the LORD raised up judges [f]who delivered them from the hands of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do as their fathers18 When the LORD raised up judges for them, the LORD was with the judge and delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But it came about when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their stubborn ways. 20 So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers and has not listened to My voice, 21 I also will no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died, 22 in order to test Israel by them, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk in it as their fathers [g]did, or not.” 23 So the LORD allowed those nations to remain, not driving them out quickly; and He did not give them into the hand of Joshua.

Given are the three kinds of generation from the past lessons:
First Generation: The Exodus Generation
Second Generation: The crossing of the Joshua Generation AKA as the generation of conquerors.
Third Generation: The suffering and plundered generation - the generation mentioned in Judges 2:10

What were the failures of the legacy-less generation:

  1. The failure of the parents in their lack of total dependence of God (Bochim - weeping situation).
    - They converted their Gilgal (God's will) to Bochim (A place of weeping)
    - This could be synonymous to managing our lives on our own.
    - Parents behavior affect children.
  2. The failure to transmit their faith to their children.
    - The next generation were not taught the right worship.
    - God was no longer part of their daily practice.
  3. Failure to maintain a shepherd guarded community
    - A time when judges were appointed after Joshua's death (who was their spiritual shepherd)
The next generation did not know what the Lord had done.
    - there was no more shepherding
    - in our time, our generation do not want pastors but are more willing to watch a preaching. They do not want to be led.

This is WRONG and will only lead to suffering!
One thing Pastor Doy said was children should not be pulled to church by their parents it is a voluntary attitude for the youth to bring themselves to church and be knowledgeable of the legacy that our early Christians had left. Parents must not have partial dependence on God, it is essential that to influence their young to be completely dependent with God they should show their devotion to their spiritual community and definitely their complete and undivided dependence to God.

Now the question is: What is the legacy that you will leave behind for children?

Be blessed!
