Preaching from John McArthur. This is only a portion of that part of that preaching.
Man's problem is will not search the truth because their deeds are evil.
Man likes to live with 5 dominant lies.
Comfortable for the sinner
1. Life is random
Products of evolutionary chance, no purpose no creator, no accountability formula: nobody's in charge, nobody put us here were accountable to nobody no one made us we have no reason that's why we are free to do what we want.
Products of evolutionary chance, no purpose no creator, no accountability formula: nobody's in charge, nobody put us here were accountable to nobody no one made us we have no reason that's why we are free to do what we want.
2. Truth is relative
Nothing is absolute you can change public as we well know ethics can be changed as long as we are persistent; we are free to possess our own truth the freedom to live our lives in our own truth which is of our own invention.
3. People are basically good
If somebody goes bad someone abused them somebody else's to blame they lack self esteem they have psychological problem based on environmental problems.
4. Everyone can change their own lives anyone can control take charge be the person you want to be.
You have the power to be who you want.
You have the power to be who you want.
Maniacal kind of freedom.
5. The goal of life is self satisfaction
You're really after feeling good about yourself; being satisfied of who you are.
(Blatant self illusion)
Truth is opposite God is sovereign and nothing is random Bible is absolute truth all people are sinful only Christ can change you life and selfless submission is the goal of life.
Psalm 81
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
God’s Goodness and Israel’s Waywardness.
For the choir director; [a]on the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph.
81 Sing for joy to God our strength;
Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.
2 Raise a song, strike the timbrel,
The sweet sounding lyre with the harp.
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon,
At the full moon, on our feast day.
4 For it is a statute for Israel,
An ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 He established it for a testimony in Joseph
When he [b]went throughout the land of Egypt.
I heard a language that I did not know:
Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.
2 Raise a song, strike the timbrel,
The sweet sounding lyre with the harp.
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon,
At the full moon, on our feast day.
4 For it is a statute for Israel,
An ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 He established it for a testimony in Joseph
When he [b]went throughout the land of Egypt.
I heard a language that I did not know:
6 “I [c]relieved his shoulder of the burden,
His hands were freed from the [d]basket.
7 “You called in trouble and I rescued you;
I answered you in the hiding place of thunder;
I proved you at the waters of Meribah. [e]Selah.
8 “Hear, O My people, and I will [f]admonish you;
O Israel, if you would listen to Me!
9 “Let there be no strange god among you;
Nor shall you worship any foreign god.
10 “I, the Lord, am your God,
Who brought you up from the land of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.
His hands were freed from the [d]basket.
7 “You called in trouble and I rescued you;
I answered you in the hiding place of thunder;
I proved you at the waters of Meribah. [e]Selah.
8 “Hear, O My people, and I will [f]admonish you;
O Israel, if you would listen to Me!
9 “Let there be no strange god among you;
Nor shall you worship any foreign god.
10 “I, the Lord, am your God,
Who brought you up from the land of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.
11 “But My people did not listen to My voice,
And Israel did not [g]obey Me.
12 “So I gave [h]them over to the stubbornness of their heart,
To walk in their own devices.
13 “Oh that My people would listen to Me,
That Israel would walk in My ways!
14 “I would quickly subdue their enemies
And turn My hand against their adversaries.
15 “Those who hate the Lord would pretend obedience to Him,
And their time of punishment would be forever.
16 “[i]But I would feed you with the [j]finest of the wheat,
And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
Romans 1:18-32
Unbelief and Its Consequences
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth [l]in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident [m]within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not [n]honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 andexchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and [o]crawling creatures.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for [p]a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator,who is blessed [q]forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is [r]unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing[s]indecent acts and receiving in [t]their own persons the due penalty of their error.
28 And just as they did not see fit [u]to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, [v]haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil,disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
