"The Use of Force" by W.C. Williams

1. Whether you like the story or not.
I'd like to appreciate this short story in context with our description of Literature. That short moment that could be 2 hours long was broken down well by the writer. I like how his conversation with himself is put into a story and describes his frustrations in the situation he is in. It was simple but you could really see yourself getting involved in the story and enabling you to picture what is exactly happening.

2.How well you understood the story (and reasons for or for not being sure what the story is about);
The story is simply about this your girl having a fever for already 3 days and this doctor was called out by her parents to check on her as she might have signs of dipththeria. The story goes about this doctor and how he dealt with this girl who refuses to have her throat checked until she eventually succumbs to the doctor and proving that she does have a complication.

3.What other stories or events (can be related to your specific interest/intended blog concept) this story reminds you of.
The story can be similar to Filipino drivers(public transportation) not having to admit that they are causing traffic problems in the streets of Metro Manila

Write your analysis of the particular element of fiction as you see or understand it in the story.  (example: what is the point of view used in the story, and how can you be sure it is? What lines or passages in the story show this? What does that particular point of view do for the story and how different would the story be if it used another point of view?
Our groups element is CONFLICT. Whether it may be Internal or External.
First, conflict is definitely seen in a internal perspective where the doctor is seen describing the situation up until the end of the story. Internal because the doctor was frustrated on how he would make his diagnosis easier. The people around him weren't helping at all at the same time the girl wasn't cooperating. This was basically struggles of a doctor but just one being kids who refuse to cooperate and admit that there really is a problem because of fear.
In his line: "Well, I suppose we take a look at the throat first. I smiled in my best professional manner and asking for the child's first name I said, come on, Mathilda, open your mouth and let's take a look at your throat." show's that this is the doctor's point of view and it does put you in the side where he is the protagonist of the story dealing with Mathilda. If this was the girl/Mathilda's point of view the story would absolutely take a different path. The lines and words used would be different as her thoughts in that moment would be different and be the ones expressed.
