3. Love 1 john 5:3

What keeps us from obeying god
1. The world rom 12:2
We must not conform to the pattern of this world
We must fox our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen." 2 cor 4:18
We must set our minds on things above not earthly things. Col 3:2
2. The flesh
Live by the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature Gal 5:16 DENY YOURSELF
to live by the spirit
-we shoukd be "controlled by the spirit"
- we need to putto death the desires of the flesh
- We need to die for self
3. The devil

Whenever we give in to the world or the flesh, whejever we focus on ourselves rsther than on god, we invite the devil to attack us
*We need to be alert to his schemes*
*we need to submitnourselves to god*
*We should resist the devil*
True disciples submits to and obeys god
1. Authentic disciple confesses jesus hrist as lord 1 John 4:15
2. True disciple,nare unhappy or miserabke when they sin 1 john 3:9
3. Authentic diciple enjoy fellowship with other believers 1 john 5:1 (heb 10:25)
4. A christian loves and obeys the word of god 1 john 2:5
What is involved in ibeying god is expressed in romans 12:1-2
God's mercy: primary movtive for our obedience
Sacrficies: complete and without reservation, total surrender
Worship: form of obedience vice versa
Do not conform. Seek to please him only and to di only what he would have us do.
Be transformed: to live by the spirit; in god's likeness
God's will: goal is to seek and do god's pleasing snd perfect will.
